About Us

Phil and Kim Kornegay are from Florida and are both graduates of Florida Christian College. Phil is also a University of Florida graduate. They have 3 children, Kayla, Seth and Christian, now ages 17, 15, and 12. After serving in youth ministry for 10 years, they answered God’s leading to move to Japan, landing in June, 2003. For 3 years they worked with the Machida Church of Christ, teaching English conversation and Bible to children in an afterschool program. Since 2007, they have lived in Higashikurume-shi, a western suburb of Tokyo.
Kim enjoys reading, baking, and giving away cookies to neighborhood families. Phil likes leading worship on guitar and biking. Kayla is a youth group leader, plays high school varsity basketball and recently played volleyball in Korea. Seth enjoys saxophone, and is on the 9th grade school soccer and basketball teams. Christian plays 6th grade soccer and basketball, rides anything with wheels, and is working on his 5th karate belt. All 3 of the kids speak good Japanese...better than Phil and Kim of course.

The Kornegays rent a house in a typical Japanese neighborhood with a front yard just large enough to park 5 bikes. Nearby is a noisy intersection with a sushi restaurant that serves cake on corner, and a Pizza Hut which serves squid pizza, on the other corner. Team Expansion is a missions-partnering ministry associated with Christian Churches, headquartered in Louisville, KY. Japan is a modern, unreached country with less than 1% of the population claiming to be Christian and even less regularly involved in a church. Please pray for the Kornegay family and pray for the polite people of Japan to know the love of God through Jesus Christ. Thanks for your support!
